I tried declarative framework for years. I still love it. But I am sceptic of its application in certain areas. I learnt: 1) it is not good for behavioral aspects. 2) it is good for structural apects. 3) In case of UI layout, anything short of HTML/CSS will “not” be a good declarative framework. My main concern is – mapping an XML file to DHTML/ CSS + some JavaScript code will have limited use, prior being a subset of latter. Instead a declarative framework should augment DHTML/CSS with new tags for data binding in addition to abstracting DOM elements with commonly used behavior (initially through component libraries such as DOJO, Zimbra).
